Creating a meaningful connection

Last updated on January 11th, 2025

The search for overall health and wellness is increasing, shifting the focus to both the physical and mental areas. Healthy relationships can also have positive impacts on your health by improving your immune system and increasing longevity. As you mature, your interests may change and you could find yourself wanting to build more meaningful connections and improve your social life.

Creating Meaningful Connection

Going below the surface, investing time and energy into getting to know the people around you goes a long way to deeper relationships. Here are some ways to nurture connections:

  • Having deep, heart-to-heart conversations
  • Expressing appreciation
  • Putting in effort to understand someone else’s point of view
  • Spending quality time with people
  • Participating in activities together
  • Having open and honest communication
  • Showing empathy and understanding

Communities for a More Meaningful Connection

Engaging in your community can really boost your sense of social wellness. Providing a sense of belonging, getting to know your community allows you to connect with a diverse group of people. Here are some ways to engage in your community:

  • Participate in community events
  • Volunteer for a local charity
  • Join a local sports club
  • Start a walking group in your neighborhood
  • Attend your neighborhood association meetings
  • Support local businesses (check out our directory of local wine brands you can support!)

Technologies to Create Connections

The digital age we are in has impacted how we socialize. Social media and apps can be great ways to find groups, communities and people that share interests. Be mindful and practice safety when meeting people in real life.

Here are some ways to incorporate technology:

  • Join virtual clubs and groups like book clubs and workout groups
  • Use social to stay in touch with family that aren’t local
  • Use apps designed to meet new people
  • Use video calls to have increase interactions
  • Participate in online forums and communities
  • Use messaging apps to create groups and stay connected
  • Share content that can attract and connect you to others with similar interests

Too much social media can lead to feelings of isolation. Getting to know and trust new people can be tough but so worth it. Follow your intuition and don’t be afraid to get to know new people. Creating a meaningful connection is an essential part of life and supports our individual growth.
